In the current economic climate it’s even harder than usual to get sponsorship for charity events. Although I already have quite a few donations promised from individuals and companies, product sponsorship from Nutrend and another paying sponsor from a financial company, which I hope to be able to announce soon, a couple more sponsors are required for there to be decent amount of money for Asistence. So this week I’m appealing to you for your help in speaking to your employer, friends and contacts so that we can really make this swim a success. You/they can look at the website (www.vltava2010.cz) for more details and how to contact me. All sponsors will get coverage for their company through the media partners: deník Sport, Český rozhlas 1 and Český rozhlas České Budějovice. This blog is getting over 400 hits per week so I hope that some of my readers will be able to help:-).
On to swimming now: I had a bit of a shock last week when they opened the 50m pool at Podolí. It’s got a completely different feel from the 33m pool, which is now closed for cleaning; it’s a lot slower. The 33m pool is always calm and smooth, allowing you to glide through the water much easier, whereas the 50m pool has a lot more waves and you feel like you’re getting thrown around all the time. It makes it harder to get into a good rhythm and I noticed that my time per kilometre has slowed by 3 minutes! It took a few days to get used to but I’m pleased to report that I’m more used to it now and it doesn’t feel too bad. I’m hoping to approach 40km this week.
I live quite close to koupaliště Petynka , which is a nice 50m pool, so I’ll probably split my training between there and Podolí for a few weeks until I start training in the Vltava itself. That’ll be a completely different feeling again (a very cold one!) and I’ll write all about it when it happens. I’m trying to get a wetsuit sponsor at the moment, but if that doesn’t work out, I’ll have to buy one:-(. I’m actually very curious how different that’s going to feel because I’ve never swum in a wetsuit before.
Have a good week folks. More from me next week.
