The official name of Great Britain is The United Kingdom ofGreat Britain and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is in Europe, but is locatedon islands behind England Channel (or LaManche Canal). There are also manysmall islands, for example The Isle of Lewis, Orkney islands and Shetlands.Great Britain consists of England, Scottland, Wales and Northern Ireland. InGreat Britain aren’t high mountains. The highest mountain is Ben Nevis with1343 m. The largest british lake is called Lough Neagh. However the most famourlake is Loch Ness in Scotland.

In Great Britain live about 60,6 milion people. In Englandapproximately 51 milion, in Wales 3 milion, in Scotland 5 milion and inNorthern Ireland approximately 1,7 milion people. Two official languages areEnglish and Welsh. Hovewer Scotish people also speak Scotish Gaelic.
History
First people came ti Britain in Ice Age in 7000 BC fromEurope, but Britain wasn’t island, but part of continent. About 450 BC camethere people called Celts. In 55 BC came to Britain Julius Casar with hissoldiers. Hovewer they were forced out by Angles and Saxons in 407 AD . They camefrom northern Europe. In 1066 the British king Harold II. was killed by WilliamI. better knows as William the Conqueror. Firstly he was king of Normandy from1035, from 1066 to his death he govern England. Great Britain is monarchy, sothere aren’t presidents, but monarchs. Kings and Queens. For Example queenVictoria is very famous. She was born in 1819 and died in 1901. She reigned for63 years. It is the longest time in British history. The time of her reign isknows as the Victorian period, a time of industrial, political, scientific andmilitary progress within the UK.

As I said Great Britain is monarchy. Queen ang her familylives in Buckingham Palace. The Seat of parliament is in Westminster palace,in London. Current Prime Minister is Gordon Brown. His official adress isDowning street 10, London.
Other British towns
In UK are many towns and many and many famous universities.The best known are in Oxford and Cambridge. The University of Cambridge,informally Cambridge University, is thefourth oldest university in Europe. University was established in 1209. Thereare about 18000 students, now. The University of Oxford was establishedsometimes in 11th Century. There are studying more than 19000 students. In next famous town, Stratford upon Avon wasborn William Shakespeare, famous writer. He was born probably in 1565 and diedin 1616 in the same town, in Warwickshire. He wrote many books, for exampleHamlet and Othello.
