Ve Washingtonu jsem měl tu čest doprovázet českého premiéra Nečase na jeho první oficiální návštěvě USA. Hlavním bodem naší cesty byla návštěva u prezidenta Obamy v Oválné pracovně Bílého domu.
Oba lídři si vzájemně padli do oka a jejich společné prohlášení na téma česko-amerického spojenectví si můžete přečíst zde.
Mezi jednotlivými setkáními jsme strávili velmi příjemný čas v rezidenci Blair House naproti Bílému domu. V tomto nádherném domě bydlí těsně před nástupem do funkce budoucí američtí prezidenti (tento blog jsem začal psát odtamtud). Premiér Nečas tu strávil dvě noci, což je čest, která se dostává jen naším nejbližším spojencům.
Pro všechny ty, kteří se mě ptali, na čem teď pracuji, jsem také přidal odkaz na velký okruh otázek, na které se společně s českými kolegy zaměřujeme (a o řadě z nich se mluvilo právě v Oválné pracovně). Jak premiérovi řekl prezident, Češi jsou jedním z našich nejbližších spojenců, kteří bojují po našem boku v Afghánistánu, společně s námi chrání bezpečnost Izraele, či spolupracují na prosazování sankcí vůči Íránu.
Je vždy skvělé se vidět s prezidentem - tento víkend navíc máme sraz po dvaceti letech ze školy. Z Washingtonu jsem vyrazil rovnou na oslavu do Harvardu. Od té doby, co jsme se všichni naposledy viděli, nám přibylo šedých vlasů. Přátelství skutečně bylo hlavním tématem cesty do Washingtonu. Návštěva zdůraznila, za jak velké přátelé Američané Čechy považují a kolik jsme toho společně za poslední rok dosáhli. Mějte se hezky!Velvyslanec Norman Eisen

In Washington DC, I had the privilege of accompanying Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas on an official visit, the first of his premiership. The highlight of the trip was our visit on Friday to President Obama in the Oval Office. The two leaders really hit it off, and their joint statement celebrating our alliance you can find here.
Its was also neat spending time between meetings in Blair House, the beautiful mansion across the street from the White House where Presidents stay before they are sworn in. (I began writing this note from there.) The PM spent two nights there--an honor accorded only to our closest allies.
For all of you who have asked me what I work on all day, I have included some highlights here of the extraordinary range of issues on which we and the Czechs focus (many of which were covered in the Oval Office). As the President told the PM, the Czechs are one of our closest allies, fighting side by side with us in Afghanistan, working with us to defend the security of Israel, cooperating to enforce Iran sanctions, and on and on across the world.
It is always great to see the President, and in fact it was our 20th law school reunion this weekend--both of us are sporting a little more gray hair than we did when we met all those years ago! (From DC I jetted off to Harvard for the festivities.) Indeed, friendship was the theme of this visit to DC. The trip highlighted what great friends the Czechs are to the U.S.--and how much we and the Czechs have accomplished over the course of the past year in taking our relationship to the new heights discussed below.Na shledanou!
