Nedávno mi bylo velkým potěšením podepsat společně s ministrem průmyslu a obchodu Martinem Kubou memorandum o porozumění mezi našimi dvěma zeměmi o sdílení „roztavených solí“, což jsou materiály důležité pro civilní jaderný výzkum, v němž se naše dva státy společně angažují.
Jak jsem řekl po podepsání dokumentů, toto memorandum představuje pro česko-americkou spolupráci v oblasti civilního využití jaderné energie další velký milník. Jak USA, tak Česká republika se aktivně zabývají výzkumem zpracování roztavených solí a podpis memoranda završil sérii schůzek a pracovních seminářů amerických a českých technických odborníků, které se uskutečnily během tohoto roku k identifikaci možných oblastí spolupráce při výzkumu a vývoji civilní jaderné energie.
Memorandum umožní předání solného chladiva aktuálně uloženého v národní laboratoři amerického Ministerstva energetiky v Oak Ridge (ORNL) Ústavu jaderného výzkumu Řež k průmyslovému výzkumu v oblasti technologie vysokoteplotních reaktorů chlazených fluoridovými solemi. Ještě více se tak posílí vztah mezi Řeží a Oak Ridge, které je jedním z předních světových jaderných výzkumných zařízení. Národní laboratoř Oak Ridge potvrdila důležitost této spolupráce i tím, že byla při podpisu zastoupena svým ředitelem, doktorem Thomasem Masonem.
Velvyslanectví USA v Praze bude i nadále pomáhat s navazováním a rozšiřováním různých oblastí česko-americké obchodní spolupráce.

The Czech Republic and U.S.—New Cooperation in Civil Nuclear Research
I recently had the honor to join Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Martin Kuba in signing a Memorandum of Understanding between our two nations for sharing “molten salts,” materials that are important for civil nuclear research out two nations are conducting.
As I said after the signing ceremony, this MOU is another great milestone for Czech-U.S. civil nuclear cooperation.
The U.S. and the Czech Republic both have active research programs involving molten salt processing and the signing of this memorandum was the culmination of several meetings and technical workshops between U.S. and Czech technical experts over the past year to identify potential areas of cooperation in the area of civil nuclear energy research and development.
This MOU will enable the transfer of material from the Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to the Czech UJV Řež research facility for testing that will advance both countries’ research activities in molten salt reactors and fluoride-cooled high temperature reactors. This will further strengthen the relationship between Řež and Oak Ridge, one of the leading nuclear research facilities in the world. As a symbol of the importance of this relationship Oak Ridge National Lab was represented at the signing ceremony by its director, Dr. Thomas Mason.
The U.S. Embassy team in Prague will continue to work to promote and facilitate cooperation such as this as part of our effort to strengthen the already extensive trade and commercial ties between the United States and the Czech Republic.
