Your article made me reflect on how many things we truly need and how many we buy simply because they are easy to obtain. Too often, we accumulate possessions not because they improve our lives, but because consumption has become a habit.

I agree that real change begins with each of us. Not by waiting for major political decisions, but by asking ourselves one simple question before every purchase: “Do I really need this?”

I would only add one small thought. Neither printed books nor e-readers are the real issue. Both have environmental costs as well as advantages. The key is conscious consumption. In many cases, the most sustainable product is the one we never needed to buy in the first place.

Thank you for sharing these reflections. At a time when consumption is often treated as a measure of success, this is a valuable reminder that our choices matter.

A VOICE FROM THE PERIPHERY---You wrote: "Only rarely do we stop in the hustle and bustle of life to reflect on a sunny holiday in Egypt." I must admit that I experience it rather differently. I often and fondly think back to my stays in Egypt—and so far there have been twenty of them. It was wonderful to be there, and it is just as wonderful to return to those memories in my thoughts.

Jsem, kdo jsem. Kdo jsem?
Po mém odchodu, raději místo neosobního hrobu na cizím hřbitově, postavte lavičku tam, kde vychází slunce, a mé zpustošené a dušeprázdné tělo darujte přírodě, nechť život v podobě stromu lípy dál vzkvétá.

I am who I am. Who am I?
After I'm gone, instead of an impersonal grave in a foreign cemetery, put a bench where the sun comes up, and donate my devastated and soulless body to nature, let life continue to flourish in the form of a linden tree.
